Fish Sauce Factory RungRoj (Thang Yong Heng) is established on Thamkunakorn Road, Ampur Muang in Samut Sakhon Province. Due to the location, this road has many fish sauce factories and many other fish related products.
Mr Hui Tang was an immigrant from China near the Kwang Toong province. He was a skillful fisherman as his hometown was near the sea. After arriving in Thailand, he continued utilizing his skill in fishing. His wife, Mrs Tang began making fish sauce in small quantities and started selling to relatives who were already producing fish sauce. As production increased, they began to dig more fermenting wells and fish sauce become the family’s main income. During that time the family also built fishing boats which all have names beginning with the word “Pongtip.” Today, the fish sauce factory is almost 60 years old.
Sumit Tawanapong was the first son of the Tangs and was the main person to manage “Rong Nam Blah,” (the Fish Sauce Factory) for many decades. He was very diligent, and paid close attention to details, thus producing the best quality fish sauce. His traditional methods produced a product that was delicious as well as aromatically pleasing.
Over the years, the fish sauce has attracted more customers not only locally, but also regionally and internationally. The quality is such that customers are willing to make a trip to the factory just to buy the products---and that quality continues until the present. Customers can tell the difference of Pongtip fish sauce when used in cooking. Today the fish sauce, sold under Pongtip, Krokkak, and Oscar brands, is proof of the best quality fish sauce and continues to gain customers’ loyalty.
